leave it better.
because it’s better for you. that’s how things work.
I wish to contribute to the sustainable living movement in an effort to help mitigate environmental disaster. I believe changes on the individual level are a big part of what must occur for us turn things around.
In many areas, living sustainably is hard for folks who already wish to do so. Individuals can become overwhelmed, feeling like there’s just no way to make a difference.
Then there’s a large swath of folks who don’t believe and/or don’t care. If those who want to do better are struggling, then those who don’t believe and those who are apathetic toward the movement certainly won’t join in.
Developing new, sustainable practices must appeal to both groups. Often, the message for living sustainably is harsh and condemning, and we need that when going up against big corporations and greedy politicians. That won’t work here.
Gentle persuasion is the theme of this portal. My hope is that a few small successes will inspire visitors to try additional practices. I want to offer permission to evolve without stress or judgment. I want my voice to be inviting, a siren’s call. I wish to greet folks with a smile and say, come on in.
here’s the plan
Number one. It has to be NOT hard.
Develop/discover/uncover ways to make it NOT hard
Through my own experimentation and example, I want to weed out the pain points of living sustainably. Anyone should be able to make the best choices. If a single mother of three can’t manage to pull off the suggestions, they are too hard. I plan to experiment and report on my efforts toward living more sustainably.
Number two. It has to be enticing.
Develop/discover/uncover ways to make it appealing
Living sustainably has to look sexy. Maybe it can save you money. Perhaps it will make you a better cook. Maybe you won’t have to take the trash out as often. It might seem cool and trendy. Folks could make things that are impressive with stuff that might have gone to the dump.
